101Proof Americana Country Rock Band » About 101 Proof

Based in the United Kingdom, 101 Proof plays the pubs and bars of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, and surrounding areas. And quite often goes further afield.

“So, what sort of music do you play, then?”

A fair question, I suppose, but not an easy one to answer; no-one likes to be placed in little categorisation boxes.

Plus, we’re not entirely sure!

It involves a lot of hyphens, though!

Singer-songwriter Steven Fromholz describes his music as “free-form, science-fiction, gospel-gum, bluegrass, opera, cowjazz music”

We tend to go with “butt-kickin’, finger-poppin’, toe-tappin’, knee-knockin’ thigh-slappin’, knuckle-crackin’, hip-twistin’, tongue-tanglin’, country rock music”

You see - lots of hyphens!

If pushed we would probably settle on “Country Rock” in the finest American bar band tradition; but with band members’ tastes and influences covering Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, Southern Rock and Classic Rock it’s never going to be that easy.

We also try to vary things a bit and make use of a range of different instruments including 6, 12 & slide guitars (acoustic and electric), b-bender guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, bouzouki, electric sitar and 6-string bass.

Whatever it is or isn’t, sit back and enjoy. Or get up, get down and boogie.

There’s a lot of interesting stuff going on in the borderlands with all those hyphens!

“Wif th’ twangiess git-fiddles, funkiess man’olin an’ loudess shirts this hyar side of th’Mason Dixon, these four fine fellas play rockin’ country moosic mo’e lowdown than a rattler’s ass, as o’nery as a rabid houn’dog an’ wif a kick like backwoods moonshine.
Y’all sh’d beat a path t’their dore faster than a revenue man on th’ trail of a still, ah reckon’.
